Over the next year, Young Islanders Network will be working with young people across Scotland’s islands to gather stories from as many of Scotland’s 93 inhabited islands as possible.
We want to hear what shapes your island’s culture, identity, and heritage.
Maybe there’s a story people tell about your island. It could be a festival, sporting event, club, committee, tradition or place that makes it feel special. It could be something connected to the shoreline, the landscape, local history, music, art, food, language, community life or the people who make your island what it is.
We are inviting young people aged 5–25, as well as community groups working with young islanders, to share the stories that show what it means to grow up, live, visit, volunteer, take part or belong on Scotland’s islands.
You can submit a story, a short description of what makes it special, and what it means to you. We’d also love to know how you are involved as a young islander. How do you take part? Do you help organise, volunteer, perform, compete, create, support others or simply enjoy being there.
We will be collecting stories and pictures between May 2026 and February 2027, with the aim of bringing them together in a published collection celebrating young islanders and island life across Scotland.

YIN will also be attending events throughout the year, where young people will have the chance to take part, share their stories, and help shape this national collection. Check our news for current events.
